September 1991 – June 2001:  Professor, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of Delaware. Acting Director in 1994 and 2000 and Associate Director of Center for Applied Coastal Research since June 1989. Joint Appointment in Physical Ocean Science and Engineering Program, College of Marine and Earth Studies. Research interests and teaching subjects include Coastal Engineering, Sediment Transport Mechanics, Offshore Engineering, Coastal Structures, Transport and Mixing Processes, and Hydraulic Engineering.

Worked on oceanographic and ice criteria, erosion prediction, slope protection design and wave overtopping problems associated with offshore oil and gas exploration and production systems for the Arctic.

July 1978 - June 1979:  Research Assistant, Ralph M. Parsons Laboratory for Water Resources and Hydrodynamics, Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
